I work with individuals and couples to help address anxiety, depression, relationship issues, life transitions, and trauma. As a social worker and psychotherapist, I have prior experience in a variety of settings including private practice, community mental health, crisis counseling, and peer support with cancer patients and their families.
My style is gentle and my clinical approach is primarily psychodynamic, meaning you will be invited to speak freely while we work together to gain a deeper understanding of what is bothering you, move through emotional distress, and shift patterns you may wish to change. I believe in the value of exploration regarding the ways our relationships with others, past and present, profoundly impact our internal worlds and wellness as individuals. I may also incorporate mind-body or cognitive techniques at times during the therapeutic process when helpful.
With couples, my practice is largely informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I recognize the unique and powerful nature of our attachments with partners and take seriously the pain that comes when we feel disconnected from or are in conflict with someone we love and on whom we depend. In my experience, couples therapy can help partners communicate more effectively, repair ruptures in trust, increase feelings of closeness, and support trauma recovery.
